Last update from Blighty...

Only a couple more days left in the UK, so it might be a while til I get back to the blog, or to my e-mail....I'm not missing Avaya at all, which is fab, although it is a bit weird not having anything to stress about! But then I did have a slight leak in the car (from the rear left light unit), so that gave me something to focus my stress on.... and now that's gone too... the car was driven away by its new owners tonight... no more peugeot! Despite my constant moans about it throughout the 5 years we've had it, I do feel slightly nostalgic.... that was my first car!!
Anyhow, it's time for the new me now... so yesterday I had my hair done and got new glasses.... quite a funky new look according to my few friends who've seen it so far, but mum & dad weren't convinced! Mum made some comment about the old nhs style glasses when we were little, but believe me, it's not that bad!! Anyway, I've not got a digital camera, not being sure how to use one, or if I would have any chance of trying to download pictures to this from an internet cafe in France, so you'll just have to wait til you see me to judge for yourselves!
Since being unemployed, I've noticed what a pain it is to get web access when you don't have a free, unlimited supply, ie work.... constantly worrying about how much of a phone bill I'm running up..... hopefully it won't be too tricky from France, but my hotmail e-mail account isn't the speediest of things! Oh well, I've done the main task which is creating an entire contact/address book from scratch... I'm quite amazed I know so many people, let alone can call them friends!! Or perhaps it's just a list of people I want to make feel jealous by sending them e-mails describing the fab day's skiing I've just had !!
Anyway, it's about bed time...have tomorrow to make a real start on packing and seeing if it really will all go in 1 suitcase, 1 large rucksack and a ski-boot bag, and then of course if I can lift it all (well even 1 piece of luggage at a time would be a start!)
So chums, it's bon nuit from me, and I'll write as soon as I can get near an internet cafe..... A bientot!

Votes please.....

Well, I've finally taken some time to attempt to change the colours on my blog, so that Duncan doesn't get confused as to whether he's on mine or Claire H's (and yes, I admit it, Claire chose the Orange colour scheme first....)
Now it is pretty tricky trying to get the colours and match them and change every single bit.... so let me know what you reckon......

Oh! I've been trying to change my template with dodgy results... hopefully all is back to normal now....

They're back....
This is rather strange, the comments now show again, but other changes I made don't......technology!

Where have my comments gone???!!!

Well considering my blog is called My adventures in France, that slightly contradicts my quiz result.... but it was quite a good quiz.... Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves.....

I am 82.5% British, just like
Mr Bean
Shy to the point of ridicule, you've probably never been out of the UK.

Another new blogger...
Apparently my little sister Laura has made herself a blog.... the blogs are going to take over the world!! Unfortunately she didn't tell me what the address is, so hopefully she can add a comment add let us all know.....
Also, she didn't pay any attention to my traffic news yesterday, even though she read it, and called me at 7.15pm to ask if there was still a problem as she'd just joined the A3 and had ground to a halt.... unfortunately for her the road was still closed.....

Thoughts for today....
I was feeling in a "writing" mood this morning on my drive to work... but have not had time until now...they need to invent a dictaphone that I can speak into, and automatically download to this page - that would be clever wouldn't it!
I was thinking on my drive to work how beautiful the autumn colours are this year... I go down Rowtown, round W Byfleet, via Old Woking & Send before getting onto the A3 for Guildford... there are so many trees and they are just beautiful with their different colours... on one section of the A3 they alternate perfectly: green, yellow, orange, green, yellow, orange... do you think the person who planted them did that on purpose? That would have been very clever indeed, but somehow I suspect not!
My beautiful drive to work was slightly tainted by my current Air Freshner Trauma.... earlier in the summer, during the hot spell, I left my sunroof open ajar overnight, and it rained - that summer, thundery, really big rain-drop rain.... and I ended up with a slightly soggy car..... that combined with the fact that I've not cleaned it in a while means it needs a little help in the air freshening department.... so when in the garage the other day I bought one... now I know most of them smell horrid and over powering, so I stuck clear of ones I knew I'd hate and chose "pine"..... Have you ever used one of the tree shaped air freshners? You cut the pack open and only pull it out a little.... day 1 I followed the instructions..... no difference, so day 2 I pulled it out a bit further.... 2 days later it was becoming over powering so I've thrown it in the bin.... that was about 3 days ago, and I'm sure the smell is getting stronger! Whilst pine initially sounded like a good safe choice, I have now been reminded that Pine is often a fragrance used in toilet cleaners.... so opening my car door each morning reminds me of toilets.... nice - NOT!! Anyway, I was pleased to hear this morning when I woke up that Scott Mills on Radio 1 has done exactly the same thing, except he took the whole wrapper off and now can't even sit in his car it smells so much!!

Yesterday I went dancing for the first time since my foot op.... I've been having withdrawl symptoms and also think that last night was the last Jive I could make.... I couldn't get into my Jive shoes, so had to dance in ballet shoes, which was quite interesting, particularly as they have no elastic straps on them, and didn't want to stay on my feet!! I had a fab time, managed to dance all evening without being knocked by anyone... but my foot had had enough by the end.....

Just to change the subject totally, most of Guildford's fire engines, police cars & ambulances have been whizzing past our building in the last 5 minutes.... we think a lorry's turned over a bit further up the A3, so if you were about to head in that direction, don't! There.... a free public information service too, what more could you want from this site!!

Hoorah for Dunc!!

Well Lisa has spotted it already, but my Comments are working! And I will be good and fully admit that this is down to Duncan.... having imposed on him already to go round and make use of his cross-trainer to get some exercise, I was then cheeky enough to get him to fix my comments for me.... I'd copied them to the wrong place, but that was following instructions from the web site, so I'm not completely thick!!
And then I was even cheekier and asked Dunc how to change the colour on my site so people don't confuse it with Claire H's, but this is definitely going to take some time to ensure I get a beautifully coloured web site, so you'll just have to wait!! Can you stand the suspense??!!

Am working on the comments.....

Monday Morning..
Well it's Monday again, but only 2 and a half weeks left at Avaya...it really is starting to feel much closer now. Considering that I've known about the Ski job since the end of June, there's been a long wait, and it's always seemed like the distant future! I've been trying to do my shopping gradually, so that I don't give my credit card a shock (Duncan thinks this is typical female logic!)... this weekend I bougth 3 nice tops from Principles, and a CD holder and an alarm clock... I hate alarm clocks and will take my clock radio, but need a proper alarm clock in case a) I can't get a decent radio reception or b) I need extra help to tempt me out of bed! However, the Alarm clock I got from Allders doesn't work...whatever time you set the alarm for, when you turn it to the ON position, the alarm goes off!!! So I'll have to go back at some point to swap it - doesn't that annoy you so much!

I've also put up links to Silver Ski, and the La Plagne web site... there should be a link to a web cam within the La Plagne one, but once I get there I'll work out which is the best web cam site and put a link in... then I'll go and stand in front of the camera every now and then, and you may be able to see me!!

Lisa has sent me some instructions on Comments, so I may have a go at setting this up soon....
